The extent of Kylian Mbappe's injury at EURO 2024 has been revealed.

The French Football Federation (FFF) has released a statement confirming bad news for captain Kylian Mbappe following the team's 1-0 win over Austria in the 2024 UEFA European Championship on Monday.

The 25-year-old needed to come off late in Les Bleus' opening match of the tournament after suffering a blow to his nose while challenging for a header.

Mbappe, captain of France, is now likely to now appear in a face mask for the rest of EURO 2024 after the FFF confirmed their No. 10 broke his nose in a collision with Austria centre-back Kevin Danso.

"Kylian Mbappe returns to the base camp of the French national team. Mbappe suffered a broken nose during the second part of the Austria-France held this Monday in Dusseldorf," a statement from the organisation read, according to the Mirror

"The captain of France was treated first by the medical staff and Dr. Franck Le Gall, who diagnosed him with a nose fracture.

"Mbappe will receive treatment in the next few days, but he will not undergo surgery in the immediate future. A mask will be made for him so that the number 10 of the French national team can prepare for his return to the competition after a period dedicated to treatment."

This statement followed Didier Deschamps' immediate reaction to the incident in a post-match interview, in which he admitted he was not sure whether or not Mbappe would feature in the tournament again.

The Real Madrid superstar created the chance that led to France's only goal on the night, an own goal scored by Maximilian Wober, in the 38th minute.
