Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville believes Bruno Fernandes has a similar playing style to former Argentina international and Red Devils player Juan Sebastian Veron.
Since arriving at Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon in January, Fernandes has hit the ground running in Manchester United colours, scoring three goals and registering four assists in nine appearances across all competitions before the season was halted due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Neville, 43, who played alongside Veron when the midfielder moved from Italian giants Lazio to the Red Devils in 2001 for a then-British record fee of £23.4 million (R502.8 million), feels the Portugal international possesses much of the qualities his former teammate did.
"He (Fernandes) is a really technical player, always wants to take the ball," Neville said, as per the Daily Mail.
"People talk about Paul Scholes, but he (Fernandes) reminds me more of Veron with the way he's got that invincibility of taking people on, a lot of shots from distance.
"Fred, (Scott) McTominay and (Nemanja) Matic are all ball-winners, all have got the energy but haven't got the technical ability of Fernandes. The positions which he takes up I think are really interesting. He always finds space.
"A lot of teams will have seen a lot of his games since he came to England and I just wonder whether they will take extra protection when playing against Manchester United now."
