The Gunners’ long wait for an out-and-out striker is finally over after the club confirmed the acquisition of the 27-year-old Swedish forward from Sporting CP. The deal is reportedly worth up to €73.5 million.
The north London outfit had been locked in tense negotiations with the Portuguese champions for weeks, with the deal appearing to hang in the balance at one point. However, any lingering concerns have now been put to rest, with the Premier League title hopefuls landing their man.
Gyökeres returns to England having previously featured for Brighton & Hove Albion and Swansea City, though he truly made his name at Coventry City in the EFL Championship. During his time with the Sky Blues, he scored 43 goals and provided 17 assists in 116 appearances across two and a half seasons.
