FC Barcelona and Argentina superstar Lionel Messi has explained the strange reason why he will not shave his newly grown beard.
The 28-year-old, who has grown a beard since joining up with his national team for the Copa America Centenario, has insisted his teammates won't let him shave before the tournament ends.
"If I lose the beard, the others would kill me," he told AS.
"We believe this is a kabbalah so we will be able to break our bad run and win the trophy.
"There's no way I'm shaving it off now, my teammates wouldn't let me."
Argentina have not won a major trophy in 23 years, with the last coming in 1993, when they won the Copa America.
The Albiceleste have reached three Copa finals since, as well as the 2014 FIFA World Cup final, but were defeated on each of those occasions.
However, this year, it seems Messi and company have a great chance to lift the trophy after Brazil and Uruguay were eliminated from the competition in the group stages.
