Copa America - Third/Fourth Play-Off

Result: Peru 2-0 Paraguay

Date: 04 July 2015

Venue: Estadio Municipal Alcaldesa Ester Roa Rebolledo

Peru secured third spot at the Copa America after they defeated Paraguay 2-0 at the Estadio Municipal Alcaldesa Ester Roa Rebolledo.

The Paraguayans made seven changes from the semi-loss to Argentina, while Jefferson Farfan dropped to the Peru bench.

Justo Villar was called upon as early as the seventh minute, as the Paraguayan shot-stopper was forced into a finger-tip save by Jose Reyna's long-range effort.

Paraguay registered their first effort on target in the 24th minute when Pedro Gallese forced Oscar Romero into a fine stop from 25-yards out.

Peru should have went ahead in the 27th minute when the ball dropped for Carlos Lobaton eight-yards out but the midfielder blazed his effort over the crossbar.

Neither side could find the opening goal in the first half and went into the break with the score level at 0-0.

However, Peru broke the deadlock shortly after the halftime break through Andre Carrillo, who volleyed home from close range, after the Paraguayans failed to clear.

Paraguay should have leveled matters in the 67th minute but Edgar Benitez could only strike the crossbar from four-yards out, after getting on the end of Lucas Barrios' well-weighted cross.

Roman Diaz's side were struggling to create openings to find the equalising goal and could not count on the services of Roque Santa Cruz, who missed out through injury.

Peru eventually sealed the win in the final minute of the game when Joel Sanchez cut the ball back for star striker, Paolo Guerrero, who slotted home from close range to seal the win and third spot.
