On Tuesday evening, it was confirmed that Dutch defender De Ligt is Die Roten's fourth arrival of this transfer window, following Noussair Mazraoui, Ryan Gravenberch and Sadio Mane.
The highly-rated 22-year-old has been brought in by the Bundesliga champions for a reported fee of €67 million (R1.1 billion) as they look to fortify their defence following Niklas Sule's departure to Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer.
Bayern's most expensive-ever acquisition is another defender, though.
Lucas Hernandez joined the German side from Atletico Madrid in 2019 for €80 million (R1.4 billion). The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner has been an ever-present since his arrival at the Allianz Arena, and while the Frenchman is able to play at left-back, central defender is the position he has been most utilised in during his time in Munich.
With the arrival of De Ligt, the duo are likely form Bayern's newest centre-back pairing.
Real Respond To Barca Signing Lewa
Leroy Sane completes the top three most expensive signings in Bayern's history.
The Germany international made the move back to the league where he established himself in 2020 after spending four fruitful seasons with Manchester City, with the Bavarians paying the Citizens €60 million (R1 billion) for the former Schalke prodigy's services.
Since his move to the two-time treble winners, the winger has found the back of the net 24 times and assisted a further 27 strikes in 89 appearances.
The German's future at the club has been in question as of late, though, with reports linking the attacker with either a move back to England or a switch to LaLiga.
Real Madrid are reportedly interested, but given his age profile and the fact that he arrived at Bayern only two seasons ago and still has another three years on his contract, he would likely command another hefty fee.
