Borussia Dortmund began a new era without Lucien Favre with a 2-1 victory over Werder Bremen.
Raphael Guerreiro gave the Borussians the lead on 12 minutes before Kevin Mohwald equalised for Werder in the 24th minute.
However, Marco Reus would score the winner in the 78th minute for the visitors who returned to winning ways.
Lars Stindl scored a hat-trick including two in stoppage time to salvage a 3-3 draw for Monchengladbach against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Stindl got the game's first to give the visitors the lead. However, a quick-fire from Andre Silva and Aymen Barkok strike gave the hosts a commanding lead.
However, David Abraham got himself sent off as Frankfurt went down to ten men in the 81st minute. And Monchengladbach, through Stindl in particular, capitalised on their numerical advantage as the striker scored in the 90th and 95th minute to claim a share of the spoils for his side.
Sasa Kalajdzic netted twice in the final five minutes to salavage a 2-2 draw for VfB Stuttgart against Union Berlin.
Marvin Friedrich and Taiwo Awoniyi gave the visitors a 2-0 lead but Kalajdzic netted a brace in the final five minutes to rescue a point for the hosts.
Hertha Berlin and Mainz could not be separated as the sides played to a 0-0 draw.
Hertha are in 10th position with 13 points while Mainz occupy 19th with six points.
