FIFA's latest awards ceremony took place via a digital event hosted at its headquarters in Zurich, with all three finalists – Lewandowski, Ronaldo and Messi – being streamed in for the announcement.
As the screen was showing all three, FIFA president Gianni Infantino was seen behind the scenes at one of the finalist's locations, before surprising eventual winner Lewandowski.
Ronaldo and Messi were still on the screen when Lewandowski received the award, and the Portugal captain was seemingly unmoved, with his arms crossed and a straight stare.

Lewandowski, meanwhile, was pleased to beat the superstar duo, who had won the famous prize 11 times between them, to this year's accolade.
"If you win such an award and share that title with Messi and Ronaldo, that is unbelievable and it means so much to me," he said, as quoted by the Daily Express.
"A long time ago, I remember I was longing for something like this and now I can win such and award. This really means, regardless of where you come from, all that matters is what you put into it."
Lewandowski won the award after receiving the most votes from national team coaches, national team captains, journalists and fans. Overall, the Bayern Munich forward collected 52 voting points.
Ronaldo came in second with 38 final scoring points, followed by Messi with 35 points.
