The second female Ballon d'Or went to Meagan Rapinoe, chosen by 40 journalists from countries where women's soccer is growing.

Rapinoe wins the award after being already claiming the Golden Ball and Golden Boot at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup, which she ended victorious with the United States.

The French publication also introduced the Kopa Trophy, named after Raymond Kopa, for the best U21 player of the Year in 2018, when Kylian Mbappe won the award.

This year, the accolade was lifted by Matthijs de Ligt, who had a fantastic season with Ajax Amsterdam before joining Juventus ahead of 2019/20.

Borussia Dortmund's Jadon Sancho finished in second spot, while Golden Boy winner Joao Felix came in third.

In 2019, France Football added the Yachine Trophy for the best goalkeeper of the year. Liverpool and Brazil shot stopper Alisson Becker won the inaugural award, which was named after former Soviet Union shot-stopper Lev Yashin.

The legendary goalkeeper was the only player in his position to win a Ballon d'Or, picking it up in 1963. Alisson, meanwhile, beat Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Ederson to the inaugural Yashin award.
