Wydad are fresh off the back of a disappointing FIFA Club World Cup campaign, where they lost all three of the group games in the competition.
Pressure has now been heaped on coach Benhachem, who was tasked with leading the team at the global tournament following the club's decision to part ways with South African Rulani Mokwena.
According to Al-Akhbar, Wydad's management is considering dismissing Benhachem for his poor showing at the tournament, with the possibility of reassigning him to his former role as Sporting Director, which he held while Mokwena was at the club.
Well-informed sources at the Red Castle have revealed that former Orlando Pirates head coach Josef Zinnbauer is one of the leading candidates to take over as Wydad's new boss.
Zinnbauer is currently in charge of Algerian side JS Kabylie, but he is familiar with Moroccan football, having coached Wydad's city rivals, Raja Casablanca, during the 2023/24 season. The German coach led Raja to a league and domestic cup double that season.

Reports suggest that Wydad are considering Zinnbauer due to his previous experience in the Moroccan league and strong familiarity with the domestic football scene.
