A head coach who was once linked with the Kaizer Chiefs hot seat, Florent Ibenge, is reportedly edging closer to signing for a new club.

The Democratic Republic of Congo tactician is now a free agent after deciding not to extend his initial three-year deal with Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman. Since initially taking charge of the East African heavyweights, the club has had to constantly adapt amid the ongoing civil war in their homeland.
Al Hilal were forced to play in the Mauritanian top flight, although it is believed this was not Ibenge’s first choice. It was rumoured that the former AS Vita manager had hoped for the team to compete in the Tanzanian Premier League instead.
It was even alleged that Ibenge contemplated resigning from his post due to not being allowed to base the club in Tanzania. However, it now appears he could finally be heading to the East African nation. According to Pan African Football, Azam FC are currently in negotiations with the former RS Berkane boss, and discussions are said to be progressing well.
The same report claims that a stumbling block has recently emerged, but the 63-year-old remains eager to join the club. "There are some issues going on. Ibenge had offers from big clubs—Top, top clubs. But he is interested in coming to Tanzania,” the publication said.

Despite the delays, it is believed that the club are confident they will successfully lure the Kinshasa native.
