Zimbabwe Boss Reacts To Bafana Defeat

Zimbabwe Boss Reacts To Bafana Defeat

Zimbabwe's manager has reacted to his team's loss to South Africa.

This is what Zimbabwe's head coach had to say about his team's 3-1 defeat to Bafana Bafana in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying clash in Bloemfontein.

Despite equalising only a minute after South Africa went in front in the opening stages of the match, the Warriors could not cope with Hugo Broos' side at Free State Stadium.

Second-half goals from substitute Thapelo Morena secured all three points for Bafana, leaving Zimbabwe winless after four matches in Group C.

Speaking in a post-match interview only moments after the final whistle, interim manager Jairos Tapera put his team's crushing defeat down to individual errors and poor concentration.

"We made our lives difficult in terms of defending," he told SABC Sport

"Imagine, in the first minute through the central defender, he made a mistake and we conceded. We immediately scored an equaliser, stabilised everything and started doing well.

"We thought we might get the second goal, but a lapse in concentration saw us conceding for the second time.

"We were not marking tight in the box and they punished us. The third goal, it was through the middle again and we were punished."

With the Warriors in last place in their qualifying group, South Africa are second but tied on seven points with leaders Rwanda.
