Howver, Wydad Casabalanca president Hicham Ait Mena has confirmed they did contact Ronaldo's representatives about potentially joining the club ahead of the Club World Cup.
"Cristiano Ronaldo wouldn't have come for the money because he doesn't need it," Ait Mena told RMC Radio.
"I don't know how the news spread, but it's true that I contacted a friend of his agent about three or four months ago.
"I asked him, 'Doesn't he want to play in the Club World Cup?' He replied, 'I don't think so,'
" while noting that "there were no serious negotiations regarding a contract with him.
“We wanted to sign him, but we couldn’t afford the fee unless he showed interest, so much so that I tried again two or three times."
