Riveiro's announcement as new coach was expected to be made formal last week after his former side Orlando Pirates granted him an early release to join a new club.
The Spaniard was initially mum on his next destination but previous reports revealed that Riveiro would lead Al Ahly at the FIFA Club World Cup.
According to YouM7, an Al Ahly source revealed that Riveiro's announcement was expected to happen as soon as he arrived in Cairo but was delayed due to the club's recent good form under interim coach Emad El-Nahhas.
The source added that Al Ahly's run of five consecutive wins meant club officials decided to wait until after the Red Devils' last game of the season against Pharco on 28 May to announce the former Buccaneers coach.
Additionally, the source from YouM7 confirmed that the club wanted the team to maintain focus on finishing the league campaign, and Riveiro was expected to be announced the day after the clash against Pharco.
Al Ahly management has reportedly also kept Riveiro away from team training sessions to avoid distracting the players in their bid to win the Egyptian Premier League.
Riveiro is expected to be joined by his full complement of technical staff and reports from El Watan Sport suggest that Al Ahly has also not announced Riveiro as his staff team has not yet been completed, according to journalist Khaled El-Ghandour.
