Orlando Pirates revealed that Riveiro requested to leave the club early to join his new side, with multiple reports saying the Spaniard was set to join the Red Devils.
Egyptian publication Maswrawy reported that a source said the outgoing Buccaneers boss is set to bring his own backroom staff with him to Al Ahly.
The source speaking to Masrawy said Riveiro would be joined by Sergio Almenara, who left Pirates to join Inter Turku and the Finnish national team as head of scouting and a technical coach.
Additionally, he will reportedly be joined by fitness coach Carlos Nodar Paz and he is also looking to bring in Valencia's goalkeeping coach, Marcos Abad.
However, complications may arise as Al Ahly wants to keep Emad El-Nahhas, the current interim coach, in the club's setup.
