The South African tactician is currently out of football management after parting ways with Wydad Athletic Club at the end of last season. With the off-season currently under way for most teams across the world, rumours have begun to swirl about where the Johannesburg native could end up in the near future.
The 38-year-old has been linked with a number of managerial positions throughout Africa in recent weeks. Clubs such as Zamalek have been touted as possible destinations for Mokwena, but recently a move that has been categorised as likely is one involving Mokwena and Pyramids FC in Egypt.
The Cairo-based club are coming off their first-ever CAF Champions League victory last month. However, after the triumph over Mamelodi Sundowns, their head coach Krunoslav Jurcic stated that he was unsure whether he would be at the helm heading into the 2025/26 season.
This sentiment has consequently sparked reports suggesting that the club is seeking a new manager, with the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates head coach said to be a prime target.
Earlier this week, it was reported that officials from the African champions were in South Africa to advance negotiations with Mokwena. However, according to Kora Plus, Pyramids have not been in talks with him and are in fact looking to reach an agreement regarding an extension with Jurcic.

It remains to be seen whether Jurcic will stay in Egypt, but should he opt to leave, perhaps only then will the club be more forthcoming regarding potential replacements.
