Pitso 'Candidate' To Takeover African Giants

The South African tactician has been out of the managerial dugout ever since leaving Iranian giants Esteghlal FC midway through this season. Soccer Laduma revealed during the 2024/25 campaign that he would be leaving the Persian Gulf Pro League over unpaid dues, and since January, he has remained out of the managerial spotlight.

His time in Iran was the latest stop on his adventures in the Middle East. After departing record African champions Al Ahly, the Kagiso native went on to coach Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia, before moving on to Emirati side Al Wahda.

Mosimane would later return to Saudi Arabia, this time with Abha, and after a brief stint in the oil-rich kingdom once again, he made the move to the nine-time Iranian champions.

After several years showcasing his managerial expertise in Asia, the 60-year-old could be on his way back to Africa. According to Egyptian football legend-turned-broadcast journalist Ahmed Hassan, intermediaries have offered Mosimane to Zamalek.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns boss enjoyed tremendous success in Egypt, winning two CAF Champions League titles, two CAF Super Cups, an Egyptian Cup and the Egyptian Premier League with the Club of the Century.

Mosimane has been repeatedly linked with the Zamalek job in recent years. With the White Knights still without a permanent head coach — Ayman El Ramadi is currently serving as interim boss — it is likely that Mosimane is in contention to take over. However, he is not the only one, as this publication also understands that Laurentiu Reghecampf is also a candidate.
