BREAKING: Motsepe Wins Second-Term As CAF President

CAF president Patrice Motsepe has been confirmed as the head of the African football organising body for a second successive term.

The 14th CAF Extraordinary General Assembly took place on Wednesday morning in Cairo, with FIFA president Gianni Infantino also in attendance.

The gathering is an elective congress for the CAF president, along with some members of the CAF Executive Committee and six representatives of Africa in the FIFA Council.

During the assembly, it was confirmed that Motsepe has been elected as CAF president for a second term following the imminent conclusion of his first term in office, which began in March 2021.

"It's an honour and a privilege, thank you so much," said Motsepe during his speech after his election.

"The achievements over the last few years was because of all of us and I am immensely grateful." 

Get ready for a football spectacle like no other as the SportPesa Cup 2025 takes centre stage from Friday 21 March to Sunday 23 March, at Edgemead Football Club.

He added: "This is about Africa, this is about the people of this continent, and its been a huge privilege to get exposed to each one of you because you represent the best of the continent.

"Thanks to Gianni [Infantino], and FIFA as well."

Motsepe became the seventh CAF president when he took office for the first time, and he remains the only South African to hold the role in history.

His first term received widespread praise, as many have credited him with improving CAF's financial situation by reducing debt, increasing funding for official tournaments and zonal unions, and advancing the development of football on the continent.

CAF also announced the results for the newly elected members of the Executive Committee and the six African representatives who will be included in the FIFA Council.
