Transfer Update: Salah

Mohamed Salah is reportedly open to joining another European giant.

With Mohamed Salah's Liverpool contract set to expire in a few months, the Egyptian international is reportedly open to signing for another European giant.

The two-time CAF Men's Player of the Year is enjoying a historic season with the Reds. The Nagrig native has scored 32 goals and provided 22 assists in 41 appearances, with 10 Premier League matches still to play and a UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second leg against Paris Saint-Germain on the horizon. That tally could yet increase.

While Salah's immediate form is bearing fruit for the Reds, they will likely be wary of losing such a world-class player for free at the end of the season.

The Liverpool legend has long been linked with a move to the Saudi Arabian top flight, and many believe the looming transfer window could provide him with the opportunity to finally complete that switch. However, given his displays this season, a number of European clubs will also be monitoring his situation.

It was recently reported that PSG themselves have dropped out of the race for Salah. While the Merseysiders will be keen to retain his services, it has now been reported that Barcelona could emerge as a potential destination for him as well.

The Catalan giants have been in the market for a new wide player, and the Egyptian national team captain had previously been touted as a possible target for the Blaugrana, though that interest seemed to have cooled—until now.

According to Sport, Barca could be in the running to lure Salah away from Anfield, as the club believes they can tempt him with a fresh challenge at the highest level—something he is reportedly open to. However, to complete this mooted deal, the forward would need to take a significant pay cut.
