The Red Devils sacked Koller after a string of disappointing performances, with Emad El-Nahhas taking over in the interim.
Previous reports suggested that German coach Marco Rose was tipped to lead Al Ahly next season.
The latest reports from Egyptian publication Zahraa suggest that negotiations with the former Borussia Dortmund boss have now stalled, according to journalist Marco Murad.
Despite Rose still strongly being linked with the job, Murad said negotiations reportedly faltered due to Rose's financial compensation.
The ex-RB Leipzig boss had reportedly asked for €4,500,000 (R93,300,000) per year and has also allegedly refused to work with an Egyptian technical staff.
Murad revealed that Al Ahly club officials withdrew from its negotiations with Rose.
Egypt News reported that a source within the Red Giant was happy with El-Nahhas' performances so far and said negotiations remain ongoing to appoint a foreign coach.
"We are currently looking to contact a new foreign coach and once we have decided on a new coach, he will be announced," the source said.
