Earlier this week, French publication L'Equipe revealed that the Ivorian Football Federation had made a shock enquiry into loaning Herve Renard from the France women's national team for the rest of the continental showpiece.
This news came after the AFCON host nation dismissed another Frenchman in Jean-Louis Gasset following their 4-0 loss to Equatorial Guinea in their final group game, with it believed they were keen on rehiring the man who won them their last AFCON title in 2015.
However, the Elephants will not be getting their target after all, with the 55-year-old confirming that negotiations with the two federations ended unfavourably.
"The negotiations did not finish favourably, it's because it shouldn't have been," the Aix-les-Bains native told broadcaster Canal Plus. "I'd have loved it but fate chose otherwise."
While Ivory Coast's knockout round qualification hung on a shoestring after their defeat to Equatorial Guinea, they ultimately made it to the round of 16 as one of the best third-placed teams after Morocco defeated Zambia on the final day of group-stage action.
