Top 5 Best Captains In Football History

Today, we continue our list of the greatest captains in football history. These are the top five on our list.

5. Sir Bobby Charlton

The 1966 World Cup winner is regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time and was captain of the Manchester United team that won every possible trophy. He was a great finisher, highly skilled, strong and fast. His work on the pitch wearing the captains armband was incredible.

4. Oliver Kahn

The former Bayern and Germany goalkeeper can't be excluded from our list, considering that he is one of the best goalkeepers ever. His six years as Bayern's captain saw the club become one of the most feared squads in Europe and his leadership helped his side win four Bundesliga titles and a UEFA Champions League, amongst other titles.

3. Francesco Totti

When it comes to loyalty, Francesco Totti is one of the most loyal players you'll ever find. The 38-year-old has spent 21 years, 14 as captain, at Roma, where, despite great personal success, he has never been tempted to move elsewhere. His leadership on the pitch is invaluable to the Giallorossi, where he is an icon and legend.

2. Raul Gonzalez

Cristiano Ronaldo may be Real Madrid's number seven right now, but no man has defined the jersey more than the legendary Raul. Raul is considered by many Real Madrid fans as the greatest man to ever wear the great white jersey. He spent 16 glorious years at Real Madrid, many of them as their inspirational captain, where he played as a lethal striker. His leadership and affiliation to the club will never be forgotten by the Bernabeau faithful.

1. Pele

The Brazilian legend, mostly known as one of the greatest players of all time, was more than a deadly striker. He was an incredible leader on the pitch for Santos, who he won many trophies with in the 60s. His leadership was invaluable and he was dedicated to the club, staying loyal to them and spending 18 years at the club.

These guys were all incredible leaders and what they've done for their teams will probably never be forgotten.

Who do you think is the greatest captain in the history of football?
