Recently retired midfielder, Thabo Mnyamane mentioned the coaches that had a lasting impact on him during his decade-long professional career.
Mnyamane, who's currently serving as Sekhukhune United's performance analyst and set piece coach, sat down with Robert Marawa to chat about his football journey from his days at the University of Pretoria (TUKS) till his final playing days at Marumo Gallants.
"A lot of coaches, okay maybe a handfull [impacted his career positively] I would say Steve Barker, my first coach. Getting me straight from Varsity, no experience, nothing. [Barker] instilled that belief because apart from tactics, if players don't believe in themselves, then the tactics won't work.
"So obviously Steve Barker, for extracting that self belief, that self confidence. I got my first [national team] call-up playing for TUKS because of the coach believing in me. If also believe in the coach, you'll both achieve greater things," noted Mnyamane, showing plenty of appreciation for the current Stellenbosch FC boss.
"Working with Stuart Baxter, I saw the game from a totally different angle. Yeah, I learnt a lot about the game. I learnt a lot about terminologies, and how to position yourself and what not," added the sports science graduate in his interview on Marawa Sports Worldwide.
He began his professional career in 2013 at the University of Pretoria. After two successful years at the club, Mnyamane earned a move to SuperSport United, where he won an MTN8 and Nedbank Cup
Following a four-year stint with Matsatsantsa a Pitori, he moved on to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) in 2020, just before the status club was acquired by Marumo Gallants, where he won the 2021 Nedbank Cup.
