Neymar has yet again been slammed for diving, and this time by Italian coach, Fabio Capello. I think it's safe to say that Capello's comments are not exactly unfounded… and here's a look at five of the worst divers in Europe.
Neymar
The Brazilian superstar has some amazing skills, and he is supremely talented. Of that there is no doubt… but he is also known for going to ground very easily and it takes only the slightest touch within the vicinity of the penalty area to send him flying.
Arjen Robben
Probably the most notorious diver ever, Robben goes to ground with ease and, honestly, with great finesse. He has actually made an art out of diving and has managed to convince referees that a foul has occurred in vital areas on countless occasions.
Cristiano Ronaldo
He may not go to ground as easily these days (although it still happens fairly regularly, and he's still very whiny), but back in his days at Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo had the physical dexterity of a twig. He still hasn't managed to shake the reputation he accumulated for himself as a diver in the Premier League, even though he left England over five years ago!
Daniel Sturridge
Liverpool's star forward, who has also appeared in the colours of Chelsea and Bolton Wanderers, has been notoriously adept at fooling referees into awarding fouls where there has been little to no physical contact. Last season, he won countless penalties and fouls for his club, and he now will forever be labelled as a diver.
Sergio Busquets
Sergio Busquets has been nicknamed "biscuits", and for good reason too. He is probably the most light-weight defensive midfielder in the game and will crumble to the ground with even the slightest contact. Back in 2010, he famously got Thiago Motta sent off in the Champions League semi-final against Inter, and later, photographs emerged of him peeking through his fingers while his hands covered his face in his attempt to feign injury.
It's a shame that diving is so prevalent in modern football, but as fans, we sometimes just have to accept that it's part of the game…
