Football is no longer about clean-shaven men and styled hair cuts like Cristiano Ronaldo. A lot more men are embracing their masculinity and are expressing themselves through the growth of their beards.
Here are the best beards in the business...
Tim Howard
The USA international has been sport the 'inverse head' look of late which sees him sport a cleanly shaved head all while carrying a majestic beard of power. This fine lump of facial hair certainly contributed to him denying opposition forwards. The beard of superpowers it seems.
Gerard Pique
The Spaniard has won everything he possibly can at club and international, and while his club may thank him for his pedigree on the field, the girls out there are thanking him for his beautiful beard. Perfectly groomed with not a hair out of place, the once fresh-faced Pique looks even better sporting the 'bad boy' look.
Roy Keane
The Welshman bad boy was always fresh faced on the field and didn't need any facial hair to make his opponent's scared. However, since his retirement, Keane has grown quite a special piece of beard on his face which has a fine blend of black and grey hair.
Andrea Pirlo
His nickname may be Tinkerbell in Italy, but he certainly is no fairy on the field, especially with his majestic beard. Pirlo started growing his beard during the 2012 Euro Championships and has not taken a razor to his face since. His beard is so perfectly groomed it looks like Michelangelo sculptured this marble carving.
Olof Mellberg
The Swede's beard is simply a work of art. Mellberg's beard is so famous that it has a Twitter handle named after him as well as official hashtags on the social network. His beard has also been sported on a websites called Beard Watch, which was probably inspired by his facial growth.
Mellberg once said: "At one point, I started growing a beard and I left it like that. Maybe part laziness and I realized I kind of liked it, so I've had it more or less almost throughout my whole career."
