Mbappe: My Favourite Goal Was Against South Africa

The Real Madrid forward is regarded as one of the best players on the planet right now. Since emerging as a budding prospect in 2015 with AS Monaco, the Paris native's career has rapidly ascended, and he is now the crown jewel of what is already a star-studded Los Blancos side.

There has been much discussion about his exploits at club level, given that until the start of this campaign, he had only played in Ligue 1 for Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain. Now he is with Los Merengues, and while there may be question marks over his club career, it is his international achievements that have catapulted him into superstardom.

He has been breaking records for Les Bleus almost from the moment he arrived. When he played in his first FIFA World Cup in 2018, he became the youngest player to score for the French national team at the global spectacle when he found the back of the net against Peru. He also became the first teenager to score two goals in a World Cup match since Pele when he bagged a brace against Argentina.

He emulated the legendary Brazilian again later in that tournament when he scored in the final against Croatia, becoming the first teenager to score in a World Cup final since the icon. Four years later, he made even more history by becoming only the second player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final, after Geoff Hurst in 1966.

However, despite all the remarkable goals he has scored for the two-time world champions, the French skipper claims that his favourite came against South Africa in 2021. On that occasion, Les Bleus ran out 5-0 winners against Bafana, with Mbappe scoring twice and assisting once.

Quizzed on his most beautiful goal for Les Bleus, he told the national team's official TikTok account: "I scored one against South Africa in Lille. I controlled and shot into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area, that was a nice one. I've scored others but now I don't remember them all but this one was beautiful."
