Since leaving Al-Wehda in the Saudi Pro League earlier this season, the German tactician has been linked with a plethora of clubs on the African continent.
Last season, the Schwandorf native achieved a historic feat with Raja Club Athletic, winning both the Botola Pro Inwi and the Moroccan Throne Cup without suffering a single defeat.
These achievements greatly enhanced the 54-year-old's reputation and led the Knights of Mecca to successfully lure him away from Casablanca.
However, his time in the oil-rich kingdom was not as successful as his stint in North Africa, as he only managed to win three of the 13 games he oversaw.
The poor form led to his dismissal in late 2024, but it seems that his reputation in Africa has not been damaged as a result of his Saudi tenure, as Zinnbauer has been linked with plenty of clubs since.
The likes of MAS Fes and Raja have all been rumoured as possible destinations for the former Sea Robbers manager, but in Egypt, there was also supposed interest in him.
After Jose Gomes bid farewell to the White Knights earlier this campaign, it was said that Zinnbauer was among those in contention to succeed the Portuguese coach.
Ultimately, the five-time CAF Champions League winners decided to appoint Christian Gross. Now, Zinnbauer has revealed why a move to Cairo failed to materialise.
"There was contact with one of the players' agents to discuss the possibility of training the team, and there was extensive negotiation with his officials to train the team, but some things did not happen as I had hoped," he told Channel 10.
