Contract Talks Stall, Chiefs Striker In Limbo

Contract Talks Stall, Chiefs Striker In Limbo

Ranga Chivaviro celebrates after scoring a goal during the Betway Premiership match between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium on 28 September 2024 in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be reconsidering the future of striker Ranga Chivaviro, the Siya crew can reveal.

Indications from sources are that Chivaviro's future remains uncertain, with his contract set to expire in June.

According to sources, both the technical staff and management are understood to have agreed to keep Chivaviro until the end of his deal.

"It's the unfortunate situation of how things are unfolding now, not just for him as a player, but for the whole team. You know every war has its own casualties and he is one of them. Yes, the club had initially initiated a one-year extension but since it was not yet agreed upon and signed, they have changed their minds now," a source revealed to the Siya crew.

There have been suggestions that Chivaviro's dip in form, combined with the club's plans to sign a new striker, has led Chiefs to rethink their position.

"There could be several factors to this, but the two main ones are his drop in form and also the fact that the club is looking at bringing in a new striker. They have Wandile Duba and Ashley Du Preez already, but also they are working on bringing up Naledi Hlongwane from the DDC and that's why this is affecting Chivaviro.

"Hence the decision right now not to renew his contract like before when they thought they would need him," the source added.

Since joining Chiefs from Marumo Gallants, Chivaviro has struggled to make an impact. Last season, he played 22 games but scored just four goals. This season, in 12 appearances, he has netted three times.

The Siya crew reached out to Chiefs for comment but received no response at the time of publishing.
