'Sundowns Reached Three Cup Finals And Didn't Even Win One'

Mamelodi Sundowns secured the Premiership title for the seventh consecutive time last year, but fell short in other competitions and former Downs star Roger Feutmba says that supporters expect more from the club in 2025.

Masandawana also lost in the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League to Tunisia's Esperance, the Nedbank Cup final to Orlando Pirates, and the Carling Knockout to newly promoted Magesi FC.

Reflecting on these mixed results, the former Sundowns midfield maestro notes that the Brazilians did not meet their usual high standards.

"Yes, of course winning the league is always going to be a big thing for any club. The league title is the ultimate prize in football. But a team of Sundowns' calibre needs to win more trophies in a season," the former Cameroonian international said to the Siya crew.

"At least a treble at home and the Champions League. So since the only one trophy, the league, I regard it as a bad year. They reached three cup finals and didn't even win one. That's bad for a team like Sundowns," Feutmba explained.

The legend hopes that the new year will bring better fortunes with the league, the Nedbank Cup, and the Champions League still up for grabs.

"Now the hope is that we can go far in the Champions League this season and win it. And also the Nedbank Cup and defend the league title. If we can win these three trophies then we can say 2025 is better than last year. But to achieve all that, we have to work hard as a team because every team is improving and looking at winning the league and other trophies as well," Feutmba concluded.
