Cardoso's Non-Negotiable At Sundowns Revealed?

Cardoso's Non-Negotiable At Sundowns Revealed?

Mamelodi Sundowns could be setting themselves up for a high turnover of coaches after their KPIs were confirmed by Manqoba Mngqithi.

Sundowns appointed their second coach in seven months after they relieved Manqoba Mngqithi of his duties on Wednesday and appointed Miguel Cardoso.

In fact, the Brazilians have restructured their technical team for the third time in two years, after Mngqithi replaced Rulani Mokwena, who was also released in spite of winning the African Football League, Betway Premiership and reached two domestic cup finals.

Cardoso could already get into the hot seat aware that he would not be given time build the team, after Mngqithi suggested that Masandawana have somewhat become obsessed with winning the CAF Champions League.

Mngqithi questioned the KPIs set by the club as almost unrealistic, to win every trophy on offer.

"The KPIs [Key performance indicators] at Sundowns is always to win every trophy on offer. It's always like that. But the last time I saw a coach winning every trophy locally, I won all the three [as leader in co-coach arrangement], which was the league, the Nedbank Cup and the MTN8," Mngqithi said on 947's MSW

"Pitso [Mosimane] also won the Telkom Cup, Nedbank Cup and the Champions League I think. Coach Rulani won the league and the AFL, in as much as the desire is to win all these trophies, I'm just trying to say we've always had case studies, where these trophies have always alluded us," Mngqithi said.

"Can you believe in my 11 years, possibly 12 seasons at Sundowns we've only won the MTN8 once and you ask yourself why always these trophies are running away from us? But I'm also very happy that I happen to be that person who brought it [MTN8] to Chloorkop, because it is one trophy that has been very difficult for the club. The truth is you're expected to win the [CAF] Champions League and there's no compromise there," the 53-year-old coach added.

With Cardoso the first European coach hired since the late Johan Neeskens, who was replaced by Mosimane in 2012, it remains to be seen if he will be judged the same way should Sundowns be knocked out of the CAF Champions League.
