Insider: Manqoba & Flemming's Roles With Sales

Insider: Manqoba & Flemming's Roles With Sales

The Siya crew has been given insight into why Manqoba Mngqithi has kept his faith in record signing Arthur Sales, who opened his account over the weekend for the reigning champions.

Sales was on target from the penalty spot, calmly slotting home and followed it up with an acrobatic celebration, a clear indication of how much of a relief it was for him to break his duck.

The Siya crew understands that Mngithi has been impressed with the player's attitude in training, despite how difficult things have been on the pitch. Indications are that sporting director Flemming Berg is another who is a big admirer of the Brazilian and believes he can make a strong impact at the club.

Berg played a major role in securing the services of the South American attacker before the start of the season and the club is working to ensure the player finds his feet on the pitch, in the hope that he will deliver on the record fee (R62 million) they paid for him.

Mngqithi did reveal early in the season that he was not the one who identified Sales, but had a say in the final decision to bring him on board.

According to information provided to the Siya crew, Sales is likely to get more opportunities in the starting line-up and the club is hoping that the faith they have in the player will give him confidence to get on the scoresheet regularly.
