Barca 'Identify' Lewandowski Replacement

With Robert Lewandowski approaching the latter stages of his career, Barcelona have reportedly begun the process of identifying a replacement for the legendary Pole.

After dropping off in form last season, the Poland captain has started the new LALIGA season like a house on fire.

The towering attacker is currently in the lead for the league's Golden Boot, and appears to have returned to his best under new manager Hansi Flick.

While Lewandowski may be performing at an elite level once again, the Catalan giants are wary of the fact that the striker recently turned 36.

It remains to be seen whether or not he will still be at the club next season, but in the event that he isn't, the Spanish top-flight log leaders want to be prepared.

According to Sport, the five-time UEFA Champions League winners appreciate Swedish marksman Viktor Gyokeres greatly, but acknowledge the fact that many other European giants share the same sentiment.

There is likely going to be a multi-million euro bidding war for the Stockholm native, one which Barca do not have the financial capabilities to participate in.

The same report claims that it is for this reason that the Blaugrana have decided to turn their attention to Canadian marksman Jonathan David.

The Brooklyn-born attacker has scored more than 20 goals for Lille across all competitions in the past two seasons, and with his contract set to expire at the end of this season, the Spanish giants are keeping close tabs on him.

It is claimed that, at the moment, they do not plan on acting on their interest but will be monitoring him throughout the season.
