Burundian Coach On Chiefs’ Radar

Burundian Coach On Chiefs’ Radar

Nasreddine Nabi and Kaizer Motaung Junior during the Betway Premiership 2024/25 football match between Marumo Gallants and Kaizer Chiefs at Free State Stadium, Bloemfontein on 14 September 2024

The identity of a coach who could be on the radar of Kaizer Chiefs has been revealed, as the Soweto giants are expected to leave no stone unturned in finalizing their plans for the season.

Amakhosi got off to a perfect start in their 2024/25 Betway Premiership campaign with a 2-1 win over Marumo Gallants in the Free State on Saturday.

As expected, Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi went into the match a man down from his initial technical team after Frenchman Fernando Da Cruz, one of his assistants, unexpectedly left the club to take up a role in the Moroccan Football Federation.

While Chiefs have appeared to be taking their time on another technical team decision, indications are that Nabi could be planning to bring Burundian coach Cedric Kaze to fill the gap left by Da Cruz.

Kaze was part of Nabi's backroom staff as an assistant at Young Africans in Tanzania when they won numerous trophies and achieved notable success.

Last year, when Nabi was first linked with Chiefs, Kaze was one of the coaches expected to join the mentor, had the deal materialized.

Sources have indicated to the Siya crew that the Tunisian tactician is again keen on Kaze, with the opportunity to beef up the Amakhosi technical team.

"Coach Nabi has always been very close to Cedric Kaze, and they achieved a lot of success together at Yanga and don't rule out the possibility of them reuniting again in future," said the source.

"There is a possibility that there must have been talks going on already between the two coaches. Kaze is a highly qualified coach and is from Burundi but is currently based in Canada and open to opportunities. But whether Chiefs will want to appoint another coach now is another story, and we've got to wait and see," the source said.
