Bafana Placed In Tricky AFCON Qualifying Group

Bafana Placed In Tricky AFCON Qualifying Group

Bafana Bafana will face some tough competition after the draw for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers was conducted on Thursday.

By finishing third at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, Bafana have risen on the continent and this is evident in how they went into the draw in pot 1, with some of the continent's big nations.

Bafana, who are currently ranked in the top 10 on the continent, were in Pot 1 with the likes of Egypt, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Cameroon, Mali and Algeria, putting themselves in a good position.

Being in Pot 1 meant that Bafana Bafana would avoid the big guns of African football in the qualifiers, which gives them a good chance of qualifying for the competition set to be hosted by Morocco in 2025.

Broos' side has been drawn into Group K with Uganda, Congo and South Sudan. Bafana would need to make sure they finish in one of the top two places in the group to qualify for AFCON.

This will be another opportunity for Broos to keep building his Bafana squad, as they are currently on the rise. The team is also performing well in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the South African Football Association will certainly want the side to qualify for both major competitions, to improve on their third place finish in Ivory Coast earlier this year at AFCON.
