The story
TS Galaxy enjoyed a solid 2023/24 campaign under coach Sead Ramovic, with the fierce Serbian guiding them to a 6th-place finish in the league, with a Quarter-final finish in the Nedbank Cup and a silver medal in the Carling Knockout Cup.
33-year-old midfielder, Mlungisi Mbunjana and 40-year-old defender, Vuyo Mere recently spoke highly of their Serbian mentor in two separate interviews.
Mbunjana, who would likely give plenty of credit to Ramovic for him becoming a Bafana international in his 30s, spoke about how Ramovic elevated them from relegation strugglers in 2021 to becoming a Top 8 outfit.
"Signs of a great coach? You see it by the team improving. Because when he came, I think we were last or second from last and we'd played eight or nine games and we only had two points. All of people had written us off, saying we're going down and coach came, he started changing things.
"I remember when he came, he made us play 4-4-2, of which he said was the simplest system to play, because he didn't want to confuse anyone. He didn't want to complicate things and he wanted us to play that. We used that system and we started collecting some points, winning games, getting draws, we lost some, yes. We lost a lot actually but I remember we were left with 10 games and we're still in the relegation zone and that's when we really started collecting points.
"In those 10 games we had like Pirates, Chiefs, AmaZulu, Royal AM and that time Royal AM was on fire, because I think that season they finished fourth to go to CAF. So yes, we played those games and we managed to survive on the last day when we won 1-0 at Chippa. The following season, he [Ramovic] started tweaking and adding things to our game and we adapted. From finishing 14th, we then finished 10th or ninth and this season we finished in sixth place. So, you can see the improvement on the log table. I can say he's one of the best I've worked with, if not the best," Mbunjana tells a podcaster known as Thabang Uncle Blaque.

Vuyo Mere explained what he likes about Ramovic: "First and foremost, what I like is that he has played the game. He understands the fundamentals of football players. He comes to South Africa, it's different. Totally different from what he's used to. He played in Germany and I think Norway, the professional level that side is way up there. He brings this mentality to South Africa, where he acknowledges that we're doing well and that we are talented... South African players are talented and that there's something that we lack as South African footballers and that is working without the ball.
"Since he started coaching here, we've totally transformed. He's a nice guy, a funny guy. You sit with him, you will laugh your lungs out but when it gets to the business, he's serious you know. Because there's time for jokes and there's time for us to play. He's a guy that enjoys positive results. When you win, obviously you get laughter and all of that, when we lose? You don't want to be in the dressing room. What I like is that he always keeps players on their toes.
"When you're doing well, he's not the type of coach that will talk you up constantly, he'll be like: 'You did well but you can do better in the next game.'
