Second Man Utd Exit 'Confirmed'

Alvaro Fernandez (left) will reportedly join Benfica from Manchester United permanently.

After Manchester United announced that Raphael Varane will be leaving the club, yet another player will reportedly bid farewell to the Red Devils permanently ahead of next season.

The French centre-back will leave the 20-time English champions as a free agent at the end of the campaign after three years in England.

More personnel changes are expected as new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe assumes control of all football-related activities at the club, with Anthony Martial believed to be among those expected to be moved on.

Now, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, a deal between United and Benfica has been "completed" over the transfer of left-back Alvaro Fernandez, who initially joined the Portuguese club on loan in January.

The 21-year-old Spanish defender made 16 appearances for Benfica this term, scoring once and assisting one goal.

Romano says the fullback has committed to a five-year deal at the Eagles, and that United will receive about €6 million (R199 million) for his signature.

The deal will reportedly include a buy-back clause, although it is unclear at this point what that fee will be.
