Kaizer Chiefs players, coaches and officials gathered with Luke Fleurs' friends and family at the New Apostolic Church in Tafelsig, Cape Town, to celebrate the life of 24-year-old footballer.

Fleurs lost his life early this month after he was shot and murdered in a botched hijacking in Johannesburg at a Petrol Station.

Chiefs show up for Fleurs' family

The funeral for slain Kaizer Chiefs defender Luke Fleurs was attended by players, management, technical staff and Fleurs' friends, family and football peers in Mitchells Plain.

The Amakhosi family was on hand to give Fleurs a fitting send-off alongside his community and family, leading the procession with touching songs to celebrate the life of the ex-SuperSport United starlet.

Fleurs, was shot and killed in a car hijacking incident on 3 April in Honeydew, Johannesburg, where the assailants drove away with his red VW Golf 8 GTI.

According to IOL, a specialist team was created to investigate Fleurs' murder and search for the suspects, resulting in six people being arrested and have since appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court, with a bail hearing coming this week.

A host of friends, family, football supporters dominated by Chiefs fans, players showed up for Fleurs' family during this difficult time, with the funeral reportedly started from the Fleurs family home in Westridge and concluded at the New Apostolic Church in Tafelsig.
