Speaking recently as a pundit, ex-Egypt and Zamalek star Khaled El-Ghandour claimed it is "a shame" that people have, in his view, over-celebrated Al Ahly's recent CAF Champions League victory over Ghanaian outfit Medeama.

The Red Devils beat their Group D opponents 1-0 away from home to secure a place in the next round of the competition, but El-Ghandour believes that victory was expected as they, along with Downs, are one of the best teams in Africa.

"It is a shame to say that Al Ahly defeated Medeama and consider this an achievement," he said on Ten TV channel, as per King Fut.

"We are talking about players from the Egyptian national team. You have all the elements and capabilities to be the best team. Winning any match is normal and not an achievement.

"Zamalek are one of the strong candidates to win the Confederation Cup, and they must reach the final. The idea that Zamalek qualifies as first place and people are happy is a shame.

"I believe the CAF Champions League has become a weak tournament. Wydad are trying to improve, and Esperance's level has declined.

"Al Ahly and Sundowns are the two strongest teams in the African continent."
