Exclusive: Motaung Provides Important Update On Chiefs Coach

Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has given some insight into what they plan to do with interim coach Cavin Johnson, who has stabilised the ship since taking over in October last year.

According to Motaung, Johnson will finish the season as interim coach and possibly go back to his initial role as head of academy at Chiefs but a permanent appointment for him as head coach cannot completely be ruled out.

Since taking over from former coach Molefi Ntseki, Johnson has overseen seven matches. During this period, Chiefs have won four, drawn one and lost two. This has given Amakhosi management some breathing space to properly plan for who their next man could be.

"He came in with a different mission for the academy, for the development. But when we had challenges with the coaching staff, we had to engage him. He's experienced, he's been in the game. The plan was to stabilise the team and he has done a good job so far. It's actually good for him now that he is in a pre-season camp with the team to prepare fully," Motaung told the Siya crew.

"Remember he was not part of the plan at the beginning of the season. I think with the positives we saw in the games he took over, he can do well and succeed. There is positive energy in the squad and I think he will do well for us.

"We will allow him to run until the end of the season. He was appointed for another position and there is still a long term plan for that vision. At the moment, the focus should be on the team. Those discussions will happen later to see whether he stays there or he moves. But those discussions will happen later. We are quite confident that he is doing a good job and we will keep him."
