'Afcon Shows There Is No Quality At Chiefs'

Kaizer Chiefs have gone close to a decade without winning a major trophy and they have been firing coaches consistently in recent seasons, so former Amakhosi defender David Kannemeyer has a look at whether there is hope for the club in the near future.

Speaking to Soccer Laduma in an exclusive interview, Kannemeyer stated that there is no way anyone would have predicted in the past that a big team like Chiefs could go for close to 10 years without winning a trophy. He feels that the unique problems at the club are bigger than football.

"There is no way a team like Chiefs can stay that long without winning a trophy! That's not good for the club. There is no hope if things are like that. I said it early last year and I am saying it now, there are problems at the club and those problems are bigger than football. How come in the last nine years or so they haven't won a trophy?" Kannemeyer asked Soccer Laduma.

"Does no one see a problem there?" the Cape Town based former left back probed further.

In addition, Kannemeyer, who also played for Mamelodi Sundowns and Mpumalanga Black Aces, asked why a team like Chiefs doesn't have a player at Bafana Bafana.

"There is no Kaizer Chiefs player in the national team at Afcon. What does that tell you as a journalist? That just shows and tells you that there is no quality at the club? What happened to recruiting quality players who can bring value to the team? You see about the problems I was telling you? There are really bigger problems at Chiefs. You need to have quality players to have Chiefs players in the national team," Kannemeyer concluded.
