The rotating door at the Brazilians in their quest for continental supremacy remains in full swing, particularly for the club's foreign contingent.
The likes of Pavol Safranko, Emiliano Tade, Mauricio Affonso have all come and gone in quick succession at Sundowns, after either struggling with form or injury – sometimes it could be a case of making way for a new arrival.
Seemingly joining that list is Erwin Saavedra, for whom the club paid a transfer fee of $1.2m (±R18.5m) when he was signed from Bolivar in January 2022.
In August Mokwena revealed that the Bolivian was undergoing treatment in Bolivia and was expected to return to South Africa. Four months later and the Siya crew understands that Saavedra is still in his home country.
Sundowns have seemingly identified his replacement as the club are understood to be closing in on the signing of Matias Esquivel from Argentine club Lanus, with a deal expected to be 90% done, according to reports in Argentina.
Saavedra made 10 appearances for Sundowns since his arrival in the country.
