Burnley Boss Provides Update On Foster

Burnley Boss Provides Update On Foster

Burnley head coach Vincent Kompany has provided a new update on Bafana Bafana international Lyle Foster, who is currently receiving mental health care.

The 23-year-old has been absent for the Clarets since October, missing his team's past three Premier League matches against Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Arsenal.

Earlier this month, Burnley released a statement to say the striker "reached out for help" and that he is receiving care from specialists.

Foster was unavailable for South Africa for this month's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and will continue his journey to getting better, suggested Kompany on Thursday.

Speaking in a pre-match press conference, the Belgian tactician insisted the only focus right now is the former Orlando Pirates player recovering.

"There's very little I can communicate other than we're convinced he's getting the best care possible," he told reporters, according to Burnley Express.

"We're fully ready as and when, although we can't put a time on it, to fully embrace him again and make sure he has a platform to perform again.

"But the emphasis is not on this at the moment, it's just him getting better."

Foster has, in the past, been candid about his struggles with depression, admitting earlier this year that his condition drove him to the point of wanting to return home.

The forward, Burnley's leading goalscorer in the league so far this season, said he was "clouded by the darkness" towards the end of his time at Westerlo in Belgium prior to joining Burnley.
