Pep To Leave Man City Over 115 Charges?

Pep To Leave Man City Over 115 Charges?

Pep Guardiola has said in the past he would leave Manchester City over the club's alleged financial breaches.

With Manchester City's 115 charges under the spotlight after Everton were handed the biggest points deduction in Premier League history, here is what Pep Guardiola said about ditching the Citizens if they were found guilty.

In February this year, the Citizens were charged by the Premier League for numerous alleged breaches of financial rules, although an outcome in the case has still not been reached.

The 115 charges spanning between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 campaigns include the club's apparent refusal to co-operate with the investigation and its failure to provide accurate economic information over player remuneration.

At the time, rumours suggested that the potential punishment for the Manchester giants, if they are found guilty, could range from a points deduction to the stripping of titles or, possibly the harshest of them all, relegation.

Everton had 10 points taken off their 2023/24 Premier League season tally last week after a single breach of Financial Fair Play, leading to questions over the consequences City could be up against when the independent commission comes to a decision.

The news of the 115 charges the club is facing was met with an interesting response from head coach Guardiola, who initially seemed convinced of his continuation at City even if a guilty verdict arrived.

In May, however, the Spaniard took a different approach when he was asked why he defended the club in light of the serious allegations, saying he would not think twice about leaving if he found out he was misled.

"It's because I work with them. When they are accused of something I ask them: 'Tell me about that.' They explain and I believe them," he said, according to The Guardian.

"I said to them: 'If you lie to me, the day after I am not here. I will be out and I will not be your friend anymore. I put my faith in you because I believe you 100% from day one and I defend the club because of that."

Guardiola has been in charge of the Citizens since 2016, and has since claimed an incredible 15 trophies.
