Sundowns Reignite Interest In Tau?

In a surprising twist, Siya sources have now indicated Mamelodi Sundowns could be attempting to sign Al Ahly star Percy Tau, and that talks are potentially advanced at this stage.

The Bafana Bafana international was spotted watching the Brazilians beat Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 at Lucas "Masterpieces" Moripe Stadium in the DStv Premiership on Wednesday.

Certain Siya sources believe Tau was simply on his off season break from the Egyptian Premier League and enjoying watching his former club take on the Soweto heavyweights.

However, a different source believes there is more to Tau visiting the club which made him famous in Africa, winning the 2016 Caf Champions League title.

The former Brighton Hove Albion player was in outstanding form for Al Ahly in the same Caf inter-club competition last season, and scored against Sundowns earlier in the tournament before the Egyptians eventually lifted the title this year.

Now, a reliable source at Masandawana has pointed out that the club is interested in bringing Tau back to Chloorkop, hoping that he could be the player to inspire them to finally reclaim the Champions League for his countrymen.

"As we speak now, the chances are 80% that Tau would sign for Sundowns," said the Siya source.

"The technical team and management have been in talks concerning his move.

"He has already left Egypt and he is here now. Yes, it's off season there (referring to the earlier story), but there is also talks between him and Sundowns.

"I can't exactly say when it will happen but things are looking positive right now," said the source.

A different Siya source had earlier indicated that Tau is expected to pen a long-term deal with Al Ahly, as previously reported by the Siya crew.

"The League in Egypt is closed until mid-September and all Al Ahly players have either returned home or gone on holiday and Tau is no different. He loves football, so it was no surprise to see him at the stadium but that does not mean he will sign for Sundowns.

"Coach Marcelle Koller values him highly and his agent has already begun negotiating a new and improved contract for him in Egypt," the source informed the crew.

Tau, according to Siya sources, is expected to put pen to paper on a four-year contract, which could see him pocket a handsome R2.2 million-per month.

The potential new development with Tau and Sundowns, could place the South African in a position where he has to weigh up options between the Brazilians and the Egyptian giants.

With the African Super League expected to start in October this year, it may be that Sundowns could be equipped to challenge whatever Al Ahly would offer Tau. There is still a chance he could opt to remain at Al Ahly.

The Siya crew contacted Sundowns for a comment but no response was received while preparing this story.
