New Man Utd No. 7 Reveals Why He Quit Chelsea For Red Devils

Manchester Uniteds new No. 7 has explained why he decided to leave Chelsea and join the record Premier League champions.

Earlier this week, the Mason Mount transfer saga came to a close when the English playmaker was confirmed as the Red Devils' newest acquisition.

The Portsmouth native spent 18 years going up the Cobham academy ranks until ultimately reaching the first team, whom he helped win a number of cup titles, most notably the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League.

However, after close to two decades in west London, the 36-time England international has decided it was the right time to head in a different direction and now finds himself at the Theatre of Dreams.

Speaking to MUTV about why he ditched Stamford Bridge to go to the north of England, Mount said: "Several months ago, it became clear that I wasn't in Chelsea's plans moving forward.

"Once I knew that United were involved, my decision was made up. A massive club, huge iconic players have played here, and I wanted to be a part of that from the beginning. Getting in early and ready for pre-season to start was a main objective of mine as well."

Mount was handed the honour of being the club's newest No. 7, a number synonymous with club legends such as George Best, David Beckham, Eric Cantona and Cristiano Ronaldo. The midfielder feels that he, too, can contribute in a big way to the club's fortunes.

"I've always seen myself as a midfielder or a No. 8 that can obviously get forward, attack, try and score goals, create goals," he added.

"But also be able to do the other side as well and defend and help the team when we're under pressure.

"That's obviously a massive focus of mine, being able to come here and help the boys in that situation and I know what I can bring to this team, and now it's about going and doing it on the pitch."
