On Wednesday evening, Portuguese champions Benfica snapped up 2022 FIFA World Cup winner Di Maria on a free deal after he parted ways with the Bianconeri when his contract finished at the end of June.
In England, Brentford welcomed promising centre-back Nathan Collins to the club from Wolverhampton Wanderers for €26.5 million (R540 million). Collins, 22, spent just a single season at Wolves, making 31 appearances.
Brighton Hove Albion, meanwhile, have signed 20-year-old Dutch sweeper-keeper Bart Verbruggen for €20 million (R408 million) from Anderlecht ahead of Robert Sanchez's expected departure.
