Getting To Know Folz, Makudubela Speaks Out!

Getting To Know Folz, Makudubela Speaks Out!

Romain Folz 2

Following some of the comments in the media about former AmaZulu coach Romain Folz, a player who previously worked with him, has come to speak out about "Fohloza".

Folz recently parted ways with Usuthu after he was initially moved to the role of Technical Director at the club following the decision to have Ayanda Dlamini becoming the caretaker coach at the Durban-based club.

While AmaZulu President Sandile Zungu wanted to retain Folz in the new position as he saw a huge role for him in line with the club's Vision 2032, the French-Moroccan tactician opted to leave and explore opportunities that suit him better.

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Mahlatse Makudubela, who played under the young tactician at Marumo Gallants, has backed the mentor and his way of doing things.

Makudubela told the Siya crew, "I have had the privilege of working with Romain and I must say he is a very good coach. The one thing that stands out about him is that he is an honest coach. His philosophy and approach to the game is top."

He added, "He is a coach who believes in discipline and he is a high-profile coach. He is somebody who is very straight forward and is honest with the players. If you are not disciplined, you will fall out with him and it is as simple as that. He is one of the few honest coaches that I have had the privilege of working with. He is like a father figure, as young as he is. He is one of those coaches that you can speak to about anything, be it it's football or anything outside of football, he doesn't have a problem to assist."

"Even after he left Marumo Gallants we remain in contact and spoke here and there and he is that kind of a coach. He is one person who is always willing to help and is more than just a coach but more of an educator. One thing I like the most about him is that he always challenges his players to be at their best. Personally, I rate him very highly and I have so much respect for him. There are things I am seeing from some of the top coaches which are familiar to me now because Romain taught us about them when he was with us. That itself tells you how good he is. He is on another level," concluded Makudubela.
