Mngomeni Comments On Bafana, Broos & Pitso

Mngomeni Comments On Bafana, Broos & Pitso

Thabo Mngomeni

Former Bafana Bafana midfielder Thabo Mngomeni has weighed in on the progress by Hugo Broos' team following the impressive victory on the weekend against Morocco.

Bafana defeated Morocco 2-1 at FNB Stadium on Saturday in what was a fitting tribute for former coach Clive Barker who sadly passed away last weekend.

A deflected shot from Percy Tau and goal from Zakhele Lepasa were enough to give Broos' men the big win.

Mngomeni has been impressed with the Bafana although he feels that Pitso Mosimane has unfinished business with the team.

The Good

"In line with preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations, I think we are on the right track. Yes, I won't know what will happen in the long run. But I think we are doing well. It's good that we have beat Morocco and that means there is something good that we are doing. In the past, we used to get a hiding from teams like Morocco and Egypt and it's good that we have managed to beat them this time around," said Mngomeni.

"When it comes to the coach, I have a different view. I believe in local coaches. How come Pitso isn't the head coach of Bafana Bafana? If we have given the current head coach a chance, Pitso also deserves a chance. Pitso has proved beyond doubt that he is a very good coach. Also, if you can check in history, local coaches have done well with Bafana. I am not saying foreign coaches are bad but my point is that we do have the best coach in Pitso," he said.

The Ugly

"If Bafana were to make coaching changes, we wouldn't need someone from abroad who will come and having to learn about us. I wouldn't say I am blaming SAFA because I don't know the criteria used to hire a coach for Bafana. I just wish the team can remain motivated and that we don't shift from the plan," concluded Mngomeni.
