From WC Howlers To The Greek Life: Pierre Issa Is Loving Retirement

Following his retirement in 2009, former Bafana Bafana defender Pierre Issa is living his best post-retirement life in his adopted country, Greece. Check it out!

What's the story?

Former Bafana Bafana defender Pierre Issa's legacy among South African football fans may be a negative one due to his defensive errors at the 1998 FIFA World Cup, but he seems to be flourishing in his life after professional football.

As shown on IG, Issa is still involved in the beautiful game and is living a comfortable life in Greece with his family.

The 47-year-old, capped 47 times in the national team, famously scored two own-goals in Bafana Bafana's crushing defeat to France in the 1998 World Cup, the same game where he also missed a clear chance to score.

Against Saudi Arabia, Issa misfortune continued after he conceded two penalties in Bafana's 2-2 draw in their final group game of the tournament - so it's safe to say that the Germiston-born ex-player isn't fondly remembered in SA football history.

Regardless of his Bafana career, Issa has built himself a steady post-playing career as Olympiacos F.C's Sporting Director.

The former Chelsea, Watford and Marseille defender also runs a sports management company, Playeleven11, where he manages, represents and develops some of the brightest European-based talents.

Outside football, Issa and his beautiful family are loving their Mediterranean life in Piraeus and the ex-Bafana international uses IG to share wholesome moments of his wife and kids exploring Europe's finest travel destinations.

Issa has fully immersed himself into the Greek way of living, born in SA with Lebanese descendance, and French passport - Issa is a global citizen.
