Ex-Chiefs Attacker: Football Became Boring For Me

Ex-Chiefs Attacker: Football Became Boring For Me

Having last kicked a ball professionally three years ago, former Kaizer Chiefs attacker Bhongolwethu Jayiya has explained his prolonged absence from the game.

It's not often that you see a player go from the heights of Chiefs into complete oblivion – but Jayiya says football simply became boring for him.

Still only 32, Jayiya parted ways with Amakhosi in 2019 but unlike his former teammates who were quickly snapped up by other clubs, the attacker simply disappeared from the footballing scene.

"The honest truth? Football became boring for me. There was no longer that interest for me," he said speaking to the Siya crew.

"Once the interest in football goes away, then there's no point of me staying there, because then I'll be resenting people instead of playing my game. So, rather leave it on a high, where everything is still okay."

Asked whether he had called time on a career that saw him turn out for Bidvest Wits, Maritzburg United, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Cape Town City and Chiefs, Jayiya said he had not decided if indeed that was the direction he was taking.

"If it [the will to continue playing] is there, I'll never know. After a year, if something can rise up again, I can go back. It's not about me leaving football completely. It's just that the love for the game at that time was gone, he explained.
